Pig Hides
my guinea pig hides in his igloo all day long ?
my guinea pig who i have only had 2 weeks hides in his igloo all day and only comes out for food or water or to use the bathroom and i still can not hold him he is still real skidish should i take his igloo out during the day ?
your guinea pig is just still a bit afraid. I have had guinea pigs for 30 years and have found a way to calm them and to bond them to you so they are happy to see you.
Take a towel and fold it in half making a square, place the guinea pig on it and wrap it like a baby. lie down and place it over your heart, both the sound and feel of your heart is comforting to it.Make eye contact with it,.pet the towel thus you are petting the guinea pig through the towel.It should be happy there for abut 20 minutes at which point it will start to wiggle about a bit, it is telling you that it needs to potty so put it back into the cage for a few minutes and start over again.
Lie the guinea pig on your chest while you are watching TV, listening to music, guinea pigs love music. Set in in your lap while you are on the computer, carry it about with you as you do your day. In abut 2 weeks you will have a guinea pig that has bonded to you and will be happy to hear yo coming. Please keep in mind that guinea pigs are prey animals and some will still run when you approach he cage even though they want you to hold them. They do not have very good eye sight so it is best to talk softly to them as you are approaching their cage so they know it is you.
